Description
In late summer 2026, I packed a backpack and booked train tickets to Venice and Naples. I brought my Canon film camera and had every intention of using it.
Both Italian cities were really inspiring, and because I was traveling alone, I had all the time in the world to figure out the shots I wanted to take.
Venice was peaceful, subtle and romantic, which made it an absolute pleasure to capture.
Naples was far messier, faster and noisier, but its charm, food, architecture and sense of community made it really easy to capture and beautiful.
On the train back home, after 10 days in the country, I reflected on my trip and on the contrast between the two cities: one so touristy that it almost feels like no locals live there, artificial; the other, located much farther south on the map, so full of kind-hearted, party-loving people. One is engine-free, as the only means of getting around is by boat; the other is fueled by cars and bikes speeding through old, narrow cobbled alleys.
